Camp Terror – Fanatics
Tom’s heart skipped a beat when the gunshot
sounded, terrified that Connor had broken the dumbass rules they were forced to
abide by; or worse that he was at the receiving end of the bullet. He began
searching through the herds of people in a quick attempt to find his team. Initially
he counted only two due to him only looking for Erin and Ollie but he quickly double-checked
to find Cameron was also in the group.
Then he turned back to Connor’s tent to see the
seventeen year old boy being dragged out of it. Unconscious but breathing.
Tom slowly began walking towards the campfire,
vaguely aware that the fanatic that had retrieved him from the caravan was now
looking and searching for him; however he was not aware enough for it to click.
Instead his mind was racing. Imaging every possible torture technique that was
to be used against his cousin.
He arrived at the campfire and slowly began to
relinquish his thoughts of Connor’s fate to concentrate on his friends that
were still in one piece. It was at the campfire that the terrorists began to “escort”
all of the men capable of actually doing hard labour away. He looked to Cameron
who just looked right through him, terrified as hell, suddenly Tom felt an
burly man push past him and grab Cameron.
Wait. What? Tom
thought to himself. I am probably better
for whatever they want me for than Cameron… He then looked down at his
hands and his mind began to clear: The man walking into him; Cameron looking
through him; and his “escort” loosing him. A smirk appeared across his face as
he thought, Welcome Jack…Now tell me
where you are?
Right on point, a small, almost insignificant,
beam of light began to shine from deep in the woods.
Tom followed said light.
It took him ten minutes to get to where the light
originated, but once there he was able to successfully locate Jack about ten
metres from the origin point.
“What
are you doing here?” Tom smiled as he friend came into view.
“Saving
your butt apparently,” Jack laughed. “The dead zone last for about ten
kilometres around the river, there is no place where the river is not
controlled by them, no place where communications can be made along the river.
Basically we’re in the dark.”
“So
we’re stuck here,” Tom started. “We can’t leave because we’ll be seen since you
can’t keep your light thing up forever, we can’t kill them with our powers
because laws and we can’t kill them with our guns because other laws.”
“How
long can we improvise for before we come crashing down?” Jack asked.
“We
won’t crash. I just think we might end up breaking a few laws in order to save
the site and our friends,” Tom explained, pointing to the main building. “That
is where they are holed up. But the first and most important thing to accomplish
is to find the gap in their jamming network,” Tom finished.
“Then
lets get to work.”
