Power Core Series 3: Plasma
Connie had no idea that four members of the Vinto assault
squad had made it inside the building. Neither did Jack, Maddi or Naomi. And
worst of all, Tom and Emma also didn’t know of the threat that was now hovering
behind their backs.
Emma and Tom had been working had on repairing the
rift but for each section of time repaired, another would rip open, releasing
something new into the modern day world. “This is stupid,” Emma moaned as
another section tore open releasing a caveman.
“It
won’t stay together,” Tom agreed, pointing his left palm at the ancient human
and teleporting him back to his own time. “What if we try repairing it from the
inside out?”
“Wouldn’t
the radius just increase continuously. As we repair the centre, the outer
reaches would open,” Emma warned.
“I’m
trying to think of something other than the only logical thought going through
my brain,” Tom replied, the pain in his voice showing.
“Shoot,”
Emma suggested.
“We
need to send something with enough energy to amplify our fixes across the entire
rift,” Tom explained. “We either need a Vinto ship or we need to send
everything that is out of time up, all at once.”
“How
fast can the amplifiers get here?” Emma asked quickly, unaware of the Vintos
sneaking around behind her.
“Amplify
our powers and use the engines of another one to amplify it further within the
rift itself,” Tom agreed. “Ours will amplify, Vicky’s engines can go into the
rift?”
“They
were the most powerful since they needed to counteract her body, and by extension
of the amplifier, her ship being attracted with hell of a lot of force towards
the Earth,” Emma nodded, while Tom reached for his watch and called for the
three amplifiers to be flown on autopilot to their location.
Suddenly the elite squad of Vintos took their
chance to attack and fired two plasma bullets that strike Tom in his shoulders
causing him to collapse to the floor in pain. Meanwhile, Emma’s instincts
kicked in and she used her power the air to launch the Vintos into the air. Two
of four of them flew up at supersonic speeds and disappeared into the rift
which suddenly allowed itself to be slightly repaired as the energy of the Vintos
amplified Emma’s repair attempts.
The remaining two Vintos were flailing around in
the air as Emma forced them to turn as her amplifier arrived overhead.
Without any warning, the rift suddenly tore itself
open further causing Emma to drop the Vintos to the floor who quickly located
their weapons during Emma’s brief period of weakness. They both approached the
girl and was about to execute her via a shot to the head when Naomi appeared in
the entrance way, having subdued the triceratops and realised that Connie may
have missed some of the Vintos.
Once inside she swept her right hand through the
air in front of her, sending one of the Vintos flying while the other stayed
put. But only briefly.
Before Naomi could move onto the other Vinto, the reptilian
creature suddenly exploded into dust, revealing a glowing red sword coming from
Emma’s hand. “Send him up!” Emma called to her mother while she ran to her
father’s side, grabbed his wrist and used his watch to send Vicky’s newly
arrived amplifier upwards into the rift, causing the pure white craft to
disappear in a sea of red.
The sea of red slowly began to recede into the
centre as the extra energy allowed Emma to concentrate on singlehandedly repairing
the hole in time. However, the energy was only enough to close half of it, so
Emma got Naomi to take Tom back to the house while she used the amplifier to increase
her power enough to finish the job.
And it was barely enough and required the
sacrifice of the Pterodactyl that had grabbed Jack earlier, much to Emma’s own
dismay. It took her around ten minutes of concentrating on the giant red blob
in the sky for her to completely close it, and during this time, Jack, Maddi
and Connie moved on to attacking the Vinto ship responsible for sending the
elite squad, and thus finding the location of Emily and Darren.
