Covenant Invasion of Earth: Connor

Connor was looking through the shelves in his local library for some books to help him make a project on local history.

Suddenly he heard a series of screams and gunshots outside and the Librarian yelling for everyone to hide. Connor turned towards the Liberian as a glowing sword appeared through her chest.
Connor grabbed a pen and threw it towards the sword.

In a blinding flash of light and deafening explosion, Connor ended up covered in the sticky and smelly blood and guts of the Librarian and whatever stabbed her. Connor wiped the blood away from his eyes so that his deep green eyes could see again.

Pulling his pen knife out of his pocket he began moving towards the entrance; when he got to the central desk three small scaly brown aliens began waddling through the door their guns drawn but known of them actually paying attention to their surroundings.

Connor looked at them dumbfounded, unsure of what to make of the little things. Looking around on the desk he found a handful of pens, a barcode scanner, some tape and a couple of books. Grabbing all of the materials he ducked down behind the desk and quickly fashioned makeshift artillery.

Before the aliens made it around the exterior of the desk Connor had created his weapons. He stood, startling the aliens before throwing the two books at the aliens' faces. The first pen/book weapon planted itself within the smaller alien's eye, the second book inserted itself into one of the backpacks of the remaining two aliens.

Pulling his pen knife off of his belt, he swung at the alien with the knife, cutting the pipe that connected the alien's pack to his mask. Connor's face crinkled up in disgust as he got a sniff of the methane now billowing out of the gap in the breathing tube.

Behind him he heard a growl. He turned. His knife dropped. His heartbeat began to race. He ran.

Swinging down to grab his knife, Connor ran towards the book shelves and jumped up onto them as a hairy ape-like alien charged after him, ignoring any and all obstacles.

Suddenly he ran out of bookcase to run on. He turned to see that the alien-monster-ape had grabbed hold of the end of the shelf and thrown it to the other side of the room. An almighty crash followed by terrified screams of pain rang out as the bookshelf plowed into the wall, crushing a couple of poor old ladies.

Connor's back was to the wall and he realised that his knife was not going to penetrate the armour on the ape. He was out of options. He was all but dead.

Connor closed his eyes so that he did not see the creature's way of killing him. His face slowly began to heat up as if he was sat next to a newly lit bonfire. For a minute afterwards Connor refused to open his eyes despite the cheers of relief from the other occupants of the library.

"Get up," Emily's voice snapped from the opposite side of his closed eyes.
"Oh, hey Emily," Connor replied trying to act cool. "I almost had him, he was right where I wanted him."
"Of course he was," Emily mocked rolling her eyes.
"So where did the fire come from?" Connor asked.
"You'll learn where soon enough," Emily replied as Connor attempted to kiss her. She pushed him away quickly. "No...Just no. Never, ever gonna happen Con...Sorry."
         "Worth a shot," Connor shrugged.

Meanwhile, outside one of the taller windows, Jack sat, looking in, staring at Emily feeling strangely happy that Emily had just rejected Connor. He looked behind him, surveying the surroundings before deciding that they are safe and jumping down from the building and landing next to Emily and Connor.
