NCIS: Calm Before the Storm
It had been two days since the incident that finally landed Parsa in prison with no powers to help him escape, and it had been two days since the strange device had absorbed his powers. And now work returned to normal. Naomi, Jack, Tom and Leanne were all sat in the school library discussing the possibility that the five remaining terrorists were indeed innocent of all charges.
“With
Parsa gone, chatter should have picked up as they try and figure out what to
do,” Naomi explained.
“No,
Tom’s right,” Leanne muttered. “They’re playing it safe, they want us to let
our guard down.”
“What
if both are right?” Tom questioned. “We weren’t allowed to bug the new
building, or the new meeting room in reception since that is licensed out…They
no longer need to communicate with a higher up now.”
“They’ve
been using it increasingly lately,” Jack noted. “So they no longer need to
communicate with Parsa. Everyone else they would need to communicate with has
been taken out; it is just five of them, and they are making do with what they
have, and that is nothing.”
“Bobby,
bring up all parcels delivered to the school,” Tom ordered and within seconds
they were on his screen. “Well, well, well. That is quite a substantial
increase to the deliveries for the English department."
“That
doesn’t change the fact that there isn’t any evidence to imply that they are
what we think they are,” Naomi countered. “They may just be ordering in new
books since all of their old ones are getting worse and worse and worse…”
“What
about the device?” Leanne questioned, changing the subject. “They’re obviously
going to be caught like we caught the others: In the middle of the act.”
“I
don’t know,” Tom admitted. “It’s been absorbing energy since at the very least
when I killed Jackie. I got water from Shannon during Leo’s uprising so that
doesn’t work as an example, but I didn’t get her mimic ability.”
“It’s
got the energy, it is just when it is ready to release it and do whatever it is
supposed to do,” Jack shrugged as Leanne turned away.
“We
need to be ready for whatever it is,” Tom stated simply, his mind scanning
through his dream and over the night that he killed Leanne.
“A
problem is a problem if you make it a problem,” Naomi stated cryptically. “If
you want to make the strange device that absorbs energy a problem then it will
become a problem, ignore it and it won’t effect you.”
“What?”
Tom asked.
“The
more you look into it, the more energy you are likely to pump into it,” she
elaborated. “You leave it alone and it will get less energy than it would.”
“And
if it already has enough energy?” Jack questioned.
Before
Naomi could answer Leanne turned back and said: “You know the ‘caught in the
act’ thing I mentioned? Yeah three of them are currently holding the Sixth Form
hostage.”
In a blur Tom was gone while the others just got
up at normal human speed and then made a run for the Sixth Form centre.
