NCIS: Showdown in Science
Tom and Leanne stood, their minds clouded, their
ability to think hindered, their ability to stand barely holding in place. As
Tom’s clouded mind struggled to count up the remaining five terrorists he
realised something that should have been clear from the start: The terrorists
knew who he was and knew each of the undercover agents as they had been working
for his dad.
“Turk,”
Tom stated aloud suddenly. “We’re missing one terrorist.”
“We’ve
got to get to science now,” Leanne ordered as she turned and began limping
towards the science block at the other end of the school.
As the limped their way up they heard gunfire from
inside their target building. “We’ve got to hurry,” Tom complained as he limped
forwards slightly faster than before. Eventually the two of them made it around
the science block and to the door to Turk’s room where they readied their
weapons.
“If
he is in here…and he has what I think he has…” Leanne stated with terror in her
voice.
“Let’s
not think that far ahead,” Tom replied calmly. “Let’s just worry about ensuring
that we get Turk out alive.”
“And
if he has a bomb…and it goes off…and adds to the energy already collected?”
Leanne questioned. “We’re in a building filled with more gas than anywhere else
in town.”
“If
he has a bomb then I know exactly where to send it,” Tom promised, grabbing her
shoulder and looking her directly in the eye. “If he has a bomb then I will not
let it explode.”
“K,”
she responded simply before swinging the door to the room next to Turk’s room
open.
They entered slowly, ushering the other teachers
and science technicians out as they went, once the staffroom was empty they
slid open the door to Turk’s room to find that there was no one inside. Tom
moved into the room to see a note on the board that read:
“S6, I’ll keep him busy for as long as
possible”
The two of them rushed upstairs and told the final
technician to leave the building before heading into the prep-room that was
situated next door to the target room. Leanne began opening the door which
subsequently caused Tom to suddenly fall to the floor in excruciating pain,
although she decided that her best course of action was to proceed.
Once in the white, rectangular room, she noticed a
strange device sat upon the front desk, while Turk was hidden behind a series
of cupboards. Fornseca, the final terrorist, hid just out the door, just out of
sight of the people who were sneaking in below but also out of range of any
potential bullets from Turk.
Without thinking, Leanne fired a barrage of
bullets at the device on the desk, shattering it before taking several bullets
to her shoulders as she ducked to the ground behind one of the gas tap
cupboards. In a blur of light, Tom was next to her pressing down on her wounds
while Turk kept Fornseca suppressed.
“Stupid
girl,” he smiled. “What the hell were you thinking?”
“I
was thinking that that device could kill you if it continued to power up, so I
destroyed it,” Leanne whimpered as Tom pressed his crumpled up jumper to her
third wound.
“Sorry,”
he stated before a few seconds later adding: “Electric!”
“What?”
“Use
your electric to take him out,” Tom explained before disappearing to the other
side of the room in a blur. However, Fornseca had not seen him and instead
continued to shower Leanne and Turk with bullets.
As Leanne sent sparks through the mains and into
the outside light, Tom readied himself to make the final move, only he saw a
rather large bomb resting just outside, behind where Fornseca was standing.
But before he could call out to Leanne to stop, it
was too late, she had released the built up electricity in the form of a
lightning bolt that successfully shocked Fornseca into death. Unfortunately the
bridge he was on was made of metal, and as such it absorbed the electrical
current and sent it along itself, including into the bomb, which suddenly
detonated.
Turk had managed to get out of the room and was
out of the science block when the explosion tore through both the upper and
lower levels of the building. Leanne and Tom weren’t so lucky as they were
suddenly flung backwards by the explosion as it ripped through their flesh. The
two of them both landed, badly burnt, unconscious and close to death, upon the
half finished new build that the school had initiated.
