Power Core Series 2: Command
Following her rescue of the US president from
execution at the hands of the Cydonians, Naomi was tasked with taking her team
and ex-teacher Lyle Hunt and destroy the Cydonian Command Ship that remained
hovering, stupidly, above Newton Abbot.
Escaping the ship this time around had been made
easier due to Darren’s quick thinking. Since he did not wish to jump out of a
ship at least 20 miles into the air, he worked through the night on a way to
break the Portal through the ship’s shields.
“You
sure you’re ready for this?” Naomi asked him. “You were working all night…”
“Yes.
I am ready. Let’s finish this,” Darren stated enthusiastically.
Jack positioned the ship directly underneath the
alien ship in the same manner as Darren had done the day before. “Everyone
ready?” he asked as he began to cloak the front of the ship.
“Punch
it,” Naomi nodded, Jack understood and began accelerating the ship upwards towards
the belly of the beast.
When they were about halfway up, Jack levelled the
small craft and aimed it straight at one of the walls. “Once I open the Portal
you’ll have about ten seconds before they trace it’s origin to this spot,” Jack
explained. “You have to be off the ship before that happens…”
“Portal
out Jack,” Naomi instructed as the team readied themselves for the jump.
“Three,
Two…One!” Jack called from the front of the ship as he activated the Portal to
transport the team into the heart of the alien ship. One by one they jumped
into the Portal and entered into the glistening, white corridors that branched
off in every direction imaginable.
Naomi exited the ship as the Cydonians finally
locked onto it; Jack, reacting as quickly as he could, opened a Portal to the
ground and set the ship to spin in a circle firing its weapon randomly. Once
that was set up he jumped into the Portal as the ship began to enact its
programmed manoeuvre. Jack spun around as he fell and shut the Portal down
before the explosion of the ship ripped through the Portal.
Meanwhile inside the ship, the team were wondering
through the corridors aiming in the general direction in which they believed
the engine room to be located.
Suddenly the wall to their left erupted in and
explosion that almost engulfed them; only to be halted by Connie putting her
hands out and absorbing much of the blast. “Why are we powering our craft with
hydrogen!!” Connie yelled as she slumped to the floor. “Do you have any idea
how painful that stuff is to absorb!”
“No.
We don’t Connie.” Naomi replied. “We don’t normally go around absorbing
Hydrogen.”
“Well
you shouldn’t,” the girl retorted. “It hurts. Lots.”
“Two
down…” Emma noted.
“Wait…”
Connie started. “You knew this was going to happen!”
“Yes.
I put the Hydrogen in the ship,” Emma explained. “It was the only way to ensure
we all survived…a set string of events…they lead to a different outcome. This
is the only one in which we all survive.”
“You’re
starting to sound like Dad,” Maddi noted quietly. “The manipulation…the “set
string of events” statement…don’t be like Dad…you’ll only die like him.”
“So
what?” Emma snapped while opening Portal beneath Connie.
“Wait.
What?” Connie asked.
“Two
down,” Emma repeated. “You can’t fight. So you go home.”
“Fine,”
Connie grumbled as she sunk into the white swirling vortex.
“The
explosion should have ripped the wall off of all of the circle bit,” Emma
replied. “This is where Darren is important. We need him to lower us down four
floors to the engine room. Then he can exit through a Portal back to the
house.”
“You’ve
got this all planned out,” Naomi noted.
“I
have to,” Emma explained. “It’s the only way to keep everyone safe.”
Using his control over gravity, Darren slowly
lowered each member of the team down four floors, after which Emma, Maddi and
Naomi set to work on taking out the Cydonians waiting for them in the room.
Emma quickly dispatched the aliens that were
attempting to flank the team while Naomi formed a type of air shield to protect
them from fire from the opposite side of the circle.
“Dammit!”
Emma cried, smashing her fists down upon the table. “Something went wrong!”
“What?
What went wrong?” Naomi pushed.
“It
can’t be set to a timer…someone will have to say behind and ignite it manually,”
Emma groaned.
“I’ll
do it,” Lyle offered. “Before this is done we’ll need you all. I’m just an old
Maths teacher brought into fight because of my experience. I’ve lived a full
life. It’s time I took my leave.”
“It’s
all set up…” Emma explained. “Just press the big red button.”
“Will
do,” he replied. “Now leave like your friends and help take care of the rest!”
he bellowed afterwards and turned his attention to the big red button. “Good
luck.”
Quickly the team evacuated the ship. They escaped
to a big field that lay directly beneath the Command Ship. Soon after walking out
of the Portal the ship above them exploded into a blaze of red, orange and
yellow, lighting up the sky far more than the sun ever could.
Meanwhile across the world, millions of Cydonian
ship exploded simultaneously due to a join operation on part of the United
Nation Armed Defence Force.
