Fast Track: Help on a Whim

Following the incident that ended with Tom having a bullet wound in his shoulder and Penny dead on the floor of the exam hall, the entire exam hall was evacuated while the police stood outside questioning them. Emily stood in front of Tom, tending to his shoulder wound, reminding him not to move every time he so much as twitched.

Maddi was meanwhile hiding behind a set of curtains, listening on.

“What the bloody hell were you think!” Naomi yelled angrily. “You could’ve been killed!”
“I was thinking that maybe I could save a life!” Tom screamed back.
“Sit still,” Emily ordered. “This will hurt a lot more if you move.”
“Just burn it,” Tom decided, Emily quickly followed this order by lighting her index finger on fire and slowly inserting the flame into the wound, burning the open blood vessels shut. He suddenly bellowed out in pain as the fire torched his nerve cells.

Once the pain had subdued, he continued his argument with Naomi while Maddi attempted to pluck up the courage to ask the boy who saved her life why she had saved his life.

She was about to do so when Jack and Fred arrived to remove Penny’s body while Emily started to clean up the blood that was all over the floor. Once she was finished she followed Fred and Jack and left.

Once the others were gone, Tom temporally stopped his argument with Naomi and asked: Are you going to leave that curtain today?”
            “How did–”
“I know when someone is hiding,” Tom explained. “Especially when they want to ask me something.”

Without really thinking about the consequences, she stepped out from behind the curtain she was hiding behind, slowly enough so that she could not see Tom hide his watch from view.
“How may I help you?” Tom asked politely.
“Why’d you do it? Why’d you take the bullet?”
“Because I was there and it was possible,” Tom explained. “Possible to do it without dying. Possible to do it and still take out Penny once and for all.”
            “Why?”
“Because she is a serial killer who cannot be contained,” Tom elaborated. “If we try to imprison her then she will just break out and murder the entire prison.”
            “Why me though?”
“That’s…complicated,” Tom stated. “And I am way too tired to explain it to you right now.”

Maddi wanted to push the issue further but decided to cut the dude some slack since he had taken a bullet for here. She soon left and went for questioning with the police outside.

“You took the bullet for Maddi,” Naomi sighed, suddenly feeling extremely guilty for having a go at him.
“Yeah,” Tom chucked while waving his hand over his gunshot wound, causing the entire thing to disappear completely. “Why else would Penny be going after her? Felix and Penny are methodical, there targets always have meaning and are rarely ever their actual target. They want the person they are targeting to suffer so they kill everyone they know. They use grief as their primary weapon.”
“So what is the meaning of Maddi?”

“The meaning is that Geoff and Jackie are back,” Tom replied. “That is why she suddenly went after Maddi today.”
