Covenant Invasion of Earth Series 1: Battlefleet

Considering what was about to happen…it was probably a good thing that they were in a hospital.

Erin had been sent to Newton Abbot Hospital to watch over the wounded and despondent Cameron who was undergoing scan after scan after scan as the doctors tried to figure out what to do about his multiple breakages, burns and internal-bleedings.

The last things she expected to see there was a pack of jetpack-wearing apes. But they were there. Looking for the completely useless Cameron…

Erin knew that her boyfriend would be unable to fight back. She knew that it was her against seven creatures of incredible strength and quite a lot of hair. And armour. And tough skin. She knew her sword and metal poles weren’t going to be all that effective.

She hid around the corner of Cameron’s room but left the door open so that he would remain in full view of the apes that wished to kill him. On the other hand, only one person could fit through the door at once, let alone ape creatures of their massive size.

That gave her an advantage when the first one arrived a couple minutes later. Before the ape could even take notice of her she had sprung up from the floor where she knelt, thrust one of her poles into the thing’s mouth and almost down its throat while also slowly impaling the flailing creature in the right eye.

As he fell she jumped off backwards, removing her sword in the process, and then slamming its head down towards the clean, tiled floor. With the pole still in its mouth.

She then grabbed its shoulders and pulled it to the side, the metal pole now sticking out the back of the ape’s head. Within seconds of each other, each of the other apes found their way into the room. Each of them subsequently being stabbed in the eye.

After about the third brute, she decided to stop with the pole since they had all pretty much figured out her location. As the final brute fell and she moved back to her spot a fist came through the wall and sent her flying across the room with the rubble of what was once the road.

Suddenly feeling extremely dazed, she stood slowly and wobbly. The punch had managed to not only disorientate her but to also make her entire body feel like jelly.

Her vision focused on a larger than average brute with an equally large bladed hammer. She looked down at Cameron, hooked up to the countless monitoring machines and sighed.

Then she ran.

Probably in the most stupid decision in her life, she ran towards the ape rather than away. This baffled the brute greatly whose reaction was thus delayed long enough for Erin and her jelly legs to jump into the air, grab the hammer and bring it towards the ground.

She halted it shortly before it touched the floor. The brute still had hold of the handle, which is what she had planned on. She looked up at the brute and smiled at him evilly before throwing the hammer upwards, causing it to arc around in the brute’s hand and straight into his face causing the full effect of the hammer to suddenly become concentrated on just the small centimetre of skin on the brute’s nose.

A kind of ripple effect swept across his face as his brain turned to mush. Suddenly he jolted backwards and flew out of the window in Cameron’s room while Erin flew backwards into a few unsuspecting nurses.

Tom, Max and Darren had been busy and had almost completed the final blueprints for the Portal, having already completed the final blueprints for the rebuild of the Power Core.

Tom pulled a small device out of his pocket and placed it on the table.
“This thing allows be to track Universe 01 Protectors across time, space and different universes. You may be able to use it to find the locations of some other sleeping Protectors if you need anymore help,” Tom explained. “It was how I found Naomi. Complete chance really that I altered its function to track over Universes but still…it works!”
“Well we did just lose Jack and the others,” Max sighed sadly.
“Lets try it,” Darren agreed. “The aliens are too strong a force for just this tiny little group to deal with. Even with our powers, we’re outmatched and out-gunned. Everything we had went up with the house.”
“Then it looks like we try and build this along with everything else,” Tom agreed as the entire house began to shake violently.
            “Earthquake?” Darren asked.
“In the middle of Devon,” Max asked quizzically.
“Outside, now,” Tom ordered as he ran for the door.

Emma, Emily, and Emily who had now agreed to go by her middle name Jenny, were walking back towards the van that they were using to store the gathered materials when the entire Earth felt like it was falling a part.
            “Vicky?” Emily asked.
“Dead,” Jenny stated glumly as Emma fell to the floor in a ball.
“You okay?” Emily asked kneeling down next to her niece.
“Massive aerial displacement,” she complained. “Something big has just entered the atmosphere.”
            “How big?” Jenny asked impatiently.
“Three very big things and God knows how many smaller vessels,” Emma announced.

Sam and Jack meanwhile were sat talking next to the van when the Earth shaking began. Without really thinking, Jack looked upwards as the ships crept downwards through the clouds.
“Um…Good luck with that,” Jack stated nicely. “I’ll be taking the first chance I get out of here.”
“Like your Universe is any better,” Sam sneered.

“I know my enemies there, I don’t know these things,” Jack shook his head. “Please hurry up Tom. I want to go home…”
